Good Company Café Brunch

My daughter and I went to Good Company Café for brunch on this particular Saturday morning to do some brainstorming for this blog. Good Company Café has been a favorite brunch spot of mine since back in 2019. It’s one of the places on rotation for my Friday morning Breakfast Club ladies group, and my kids even picked it as part of my Mother’s Day surprise meal last year. The décor brings me back to my grandma’s house with cozy couches, old-fashioned wooden chairs, fresh flowers in vases on the tables, and baskets hanging on the wall. They even have a patio out front, including tables with umbrellas for those sunny days of summer. And none of those cheap metal chairs (hereafter referred to as “THE CHAIR”) that I find annoying, so hooray for that.

The restaurant is both woman-owned and locally owned, which is always a great reason to give my support. The owner is Angela Ozbolt, who is a Huntsville native and previously worked at Mezza Luna (formerly in Jones Valley). She impressively won the Rocket Chef contest back in 2019! I’ve visited the café quite a few times, and I’ve tried many of the items on their menu. It helps that it’s located right next door to my hair salon only 5 miles from my home, and so convenient for me to grab coffee and a pastry after a morning hair appointment. The café is not usually open for dinner, so be sure to stop by for breakfast or lunch.

You order at the front counter, and your food is brought out to you by a staff member. Brunch can get busy, so we took a seat on the couch while we waited for a two-top to open up.

On this visit, I chose the California BLT. It includes turkey and avocado alongside the usual BLT ingredients, and it was very delicious. The mayo-based sauce that was used was creamy and very flavorful. The sourdough bread was crunchy, and I’m a sucker for arugula. My daughter tried the Frittito Burrito, which uses their vegetable frittata with cheddar and sausage to make a breakfast burrito.

I had the $3 mimosa since those are hard for me to turn down, and my daughter had an iced vanilla latte. Did I mention that Good Company Cafe serves Rooster’s Crow coffee? Another locally owned small business whose coffee I adore (review coming in the future, of course). And before I forget, they sell beer and wine as well!

Though I didn’t get it this time, one of my personal favorite menu items is the Nutella toast. The marshmallow fluff brings me back to my childhood (remember fluffernutters?). The build-your-own grits are also fun and very customizable. The grits are stone ground and locally sourced. I like mine with bacon, cheese, and tomato but there are plenty of other topping options. Many of my Breakfast Club ladies swear by these grits as well as the Avocado Toast, which includes a unique pickled egg.

Their bakery case is lovely, filled with cakes and pastries of all kinds. Scones, drop biscuits, muffins, cookies, and cake slices. Favorites of mine include the Chocolate Chip Cookie cake, the molasses cookie, the macarons, and the mini King Cakes during Mardi Gras season. As I mentioned earlier, my kids ordered me the special Mother’s Day charcuterie platter as a surprise. It was fabulous! I even had one of their smaller “charcutables” (think Lunchables) during Cocktails at the View at Burritt on the Mountain. I have yet to try anything at Good Company that I haven’t enjoyed, so do yourself a favor and stop by this great little spot in South Huntsville!
