New Eats: Amerigo

In late August, I was delighted to receive an invite for the soft opening of the new Amerigo restaurant in South Huntsville located in the Market at Hays Farm shopping center. I brought my daughter as my guest, and we chose a brunch seating since we both love breakfast food. Amerigo is considered a casual yet upscale Italian eatery, and they have 5 other locations in both Tennessee and Mississippi. Amerigo is part of the 4Top Hospitality group based in Nashville. Also included in that group is Char Restaurant, which opened in Huntsville back in 2019.

When we first walked in, we noticed how light and spacious it was in the front of the house. The beautiful bar near the hostess stand seemed to be the welcoming centerpiece of the space. We were greeted right away by our server who brought warm bread with dipping oil and some waters. We both ordered a Bellini to drink, which was one of the brunch specials.

There were many entrée choices on the brunch menu including a Wild Mushroom Frittata, some Brioche French Toast, and a Pork Hash. It was tough to choose but since I love grits, I chose the Crab Cake Benedict. It consisted of two crab cakes on top of English muffins covered in a lemon basil sauce, with a poached egg on each, some asparagus and a large mound of goat cheese grits. I’m a huge fan of poached eggs, so I really enjoyed that they were cooked perfectly.

The grits were cheesy and creamy, and those disappeared quickly from my plate. I was impressed with how large the crab cakes were, so I decided to save one to bring home to my husband.

My daughter chose the Tomato Mozzarella Wrap, which was a flatbread roll-up with grape tomatoes, balls of fresh mozzarella, crunchy greens, some pickled red onions, and a green goddess sauce for dipping. She said it reminded her of a caprese salad in sandwich form.

On the side of her wrap, she had a bowl of the Shrimp Bisque. The shrimp bisque was a big hit with my daughter, and our server mentioned the bisque is also available on their dinner menu.

Overall, our entrees were delicious and came out quickly, and our server was very attentive. I’m looking forward to trying out their many dinner choices very soon. I’ve never met a pasta dish I didn’t like, so I plan to give their many pasta options a try on my next visit. Pizza, veal, seafood, steak, and chicken are also on the menu, so everyone in your group should easily find something they will enjoy! I’m happy to see Amerigo here in South Huntsville, and based on the full parking lots since they have been open, I believe they will do quite well in this location.
